I grew up in a Christian family, attended church every Sunday, did Bible study, and went to a Classical Christian School. I was blessed with a Christian environment everywhere I went. I always just blindly accepted the basics of Christianity and never encountered any problems.
Eighth grade was where I truly began to see the need to question my beliefs. In Bible class that year, I learned about the early church and its arguments and disputes. This is where I learned the importance of sacraments. Sacraments are signs of the grace of God that bear a likeness to what they are signifying.
Baptism is a sacrament. Baptism is in fact efficacious, meaning it actually does have an impact on your life as a Christian. Baptism is a crucial step in a Christian’s journey.
Colossians 2:12 says, “Having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead.” In this verse, Paul shows what baptism truly symbolizes.
This is why it is essential for me to be baptized and publicly proclaim my need for Christ. Christ is my Lord and Savior. I am sinful, broken, and corrupted, and I am in need of God’s grace and forgiveness. I entrust the Lord with my life and I will listen, trust, and obey him to the best of my gifts given by God. May God be glorified in everything I do.
