We are less than a week away from Baptism Weekend! We’re excited to celebrate the transformation that individuals have experienced when Jesus entered their stories. We invite you now to take a look at Jill’s story (and don’t forget to join us July 29 to watch her get #dunked).

My name is Jill Greenwald. I will be starting my senior year of college at Mount St. Mary’s University this upcoming fall. I will be graduating with a double major in political science and communication, with a minor in legal studies. At “The Mount” I am captain of my school’s NCAA Division I cross country and track & field team, a peer-tutor, president of the communication club, and a member of the student-athlete advisory committee. My goal after college is to pursue a career in political communication and possibly earn my master’s degree in political and strategic communication.

I don’t remember a lot about my life before I trusted Jesus. I honestly was not sure what I believed in or if I even thought there was a God. If I had to describe my life before I came to know the Lord, I would say that it was very “earthly.” There was not a lot of depth to my relationships or a lot of contentment. I was afraid of death and the afterlife and was unaware of the impact that having faith and hope can have on a person.

The turning point in my life was when I was invited to a worship night at Grace by my best friend. I remember attending it and finding myself in tears as I sang along and watched the group of high school students worshiping a God that I never knew. From that point on I wanted to go back to Grace and learn. I was interested in finding out who Jesus is and actively found myself reading the Bible to learn more about his Word.

Now, Jesus is working in my NEW life by giving me faith and hope through any struggle that I face. He is the calm in the storm and the reassurance that I need in any hardship. I know Jesus loves me as I am, and he reminds me that I am a daughter of the King. No matter what I may be going through, Jesus reminds me that I am whole and worthy of his love. Speaking of love, I now know what perfect love is and how to love my friends and family. My goal in life is to reflect his love and light to anyone that I may encounter. He is a constant reminder that our life here on earth is only temporary and the beginning to a journey of eternal life with him.

I am getting baptized because I believe that Jesus is my Savior and that he is the Lord above all. I hope that my baptism also inspires others who may be non-believers and that it is a reminder to myself how much one’s life can change when Jesus is in the picture. For fifteen years, I was lost in the darkness and for the past five I have been able to be guided through this world by the light of Christ.

Baptism at Grace

During all worship gatherings on Baptism Weekends, we celebrate the very reason we exist as a church: Christ’s mission to make disciples, baptizing and teaching in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28: 19-20). We share testimonies of how Jesus changes lives now and for eternity. And the best part… we baptize with a joy that’s out of this world!
