Priscilla is taking the step to publicly proclaim her faith through baptism at the end of the month, check out her story:
My name is Priscilla Obianyi. I didn’t grow up in a church but I’ve been surrounded by church people for most of my adult life. I became a dedicated churchgoer in the 1970s. Thereafter, I became a keen listener to the stories of the Bible. The story of Jesus and the woman caught in adultery in John 8:1-11 erupted something in me and seals my faith in Jesus. I love how Jesus gently tells the woman’s accusers, “Let him who is without sin cast the first stone” (John 8:7). Interestingly, beginning from the oldest accuser to the youngest, they all walk away
leaving the woman alone with Jesus. I found this story intriguing because it wasn’t about the woman; it was about humiliating and ridiculing Jesus, using the woman as a bet. Guess who had the last laugh? The woman of course! She was “left alone with Jesus!”
After I heard this story, I came to the understanding that I also need to have my own personal time with Jesus; I do not necessarily need to have a drama such as the case of the adulterous woman in order to do so. Upon this realization, I gave my life to Jesus!!!
However, I have put off baptism by immersion because I felt that I was too old, but I am finding out that age should not stand between me and Jesus’ instructions. Besides, I want to use my baptism today to encourage many of you who will read about this or who are here physically to do Christ’s biddings because obeying Him always works well for our spiritual and physical growth.
Baptism at Grace
During all worship gatherings on Baptism Weekends, we celebrate the very reason we exist as a church: Christ’s mission to make disciples, baptizing and teaching in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28: 19-20). We share testimonies of how Jesus changes lives now and for eternity. And the best part… we baptize with a joy that’s out of this world!
