Al is publicly proclaiming his faith in Jesus Christ through baptism! Learn how he came to trust in Jesus as his Lord and Savior:
My name is Al Montagna. I am Marlena’s husband and the father of Ali and Sawyer.
I heard about Jesus at church when I was a child, but I thought of Him as a judge and didn’t think He could love me. I eventually chased after material and financial success to find happiness and security. Then the financial crisis in 2009 hit…the life I had built came crashing down.
I was lost until our friends, Sean and Carrie invited my wife and me to Grace. I came with an open mind because I realized my life was a mess, and I couldn’t fix it. I heard that Jesus wasn’t judging me, but that He loves me unconditionally. I didn’t need to earn his forgiveness, grace, mercy or help. That really resonated with me.
At this service I also heard about the Men of Grace. This is where I met Steve Girard. We told each other our stories, and then he shared Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus or Lord.” He also referred to Romans 10:9-10, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Then he asked if I would like to make Jesus my Lord and Savior, and I said yes! We had a moment of prayer where I repented for my past, asked Jesus for forgiveness, and acknowledged that I believe Jesus died on the cross as payment for my sins and rose from the dead so I could have eternal life. I then asked Jesus to be my Lord & Savior. At that moment, I felt like my life was changing direction. Life did not become easy, but now there is light in the darkness, hope in hopelessness and purpose in the pain.
In my new life in Jesus, I am growing in His image and likeness. I’m not doing this alone. At the Men’s Breakfast at Grace I met Ron Stimeare who has come alongside me. We read the scriptures and talk about the opportunities Jesus gives me to live out my faith. Each day is an opportunity to go to Jesus in prayer, read his word, and serve. I get to serve at Grace as a co-leader in Men of Grace and Boys of Grace. My wife and I are also in a small group together.
I have found my true happiness and security in Christ. So today, I publicly proclaim that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior!
Baptism at Grace
During all worship gatherings on Baptism Weekends, we celebrate the very reason we exist as a church: Christ’s mission to make disciples, baptizing and teaching in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28: 19-20). We share testimonies of how Jesus changes lives now and for eternity. And the best part… we baptize with a joy that’s out of this world!
