I attended Sunday school as a child even though my parents did not go to church. I vividly remember my dad dropping me off for Sunday school and then coming back to get me. We never talked about what I learned in Sunday school. It was just something I did. The same is true of my baptism and confirmation at age 13. It was something I did because my friends were doing it.

As an adult I tried several different churches with my husband and friends but never found a church home. After my husband walked away from his faith we no longer even tried to go to church.

Two things happened in my life that brought me to accept Jesus as my Savior who forgives all my sins. The first was my husband was riding his bicycle when a pick-up truck hit him. He should have died given the severity of his injuries; however, two things intervened. The first was God. The second was he was in front of a fire station when the accident occurred. Despite severe injuries, he survived. One of the pastors and an elder from Grace came to the hospital and prayed with me. This was the beginning of my journey at Grace. I began attending services with my son and daughter-in-law and participated in small groups.

The second thing that happened in my life was my granddaughter was born at 23.5 weeks gestation and, again, should have died. However, God has a plan for her, and she is now 6 months old and thriving. My friends through Dig Deep, Woven, and Starting Point have held her up to God every week and prayed for her and for me.

On the last day of the Women’s Retreat we were asked had anyone found Jesus Christ as their anchor. I felt an overwhelming need to stand up and felt such peace once I had. I decided then that my next step is baptism. I believe that Jesus is my Savior, that he died to save me from my sins, and that God has a plan for my life and has had one all along.
